The Why

Even with small class sizes and amazingly talented educators, some students still fall behind. They find it challenging to reach grade-level proficiency, struggling to keep up with peers in their literacy journey. Without fully grasping the foundational skills to build upon, these students are left to play catch-up in an accelerating game—missing the mark of a moving goalpost as concepts become increasingly abstract and complex.

Moved by purpose

The creation of Yaselah Phonics was sparked at a private international school in Austin. There, I observed that even with a lower number of peers per class than their public-school counterparts, some students still needed more than a traditional classroom environment to develop their core linguistic skills. Instead of the 50-piece puzzle their classmates seemed to be working with, these struggling students found themselves with a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. They had far more pieces to fit together, but had not internalized the necessary tools and strategies to do so successfully.

Recently, early-childhood literacy has seen an unprecedented decline. Yaselah Phonics shines here.

We bridge the gap between the standards-based literacy classroom and the underlying skill deficits that create low student outcomes, lack of confidence, and decreased motivation. Our method fuses a child’s natural curiosity with the brain’s complex wiring for pattern recognition, problem solving, and reward systems.

We believe that nurturing these neural bonds through structured, explicit phonics instruction and rewarding academic engagement through play ensures that students who previously missed the mark will make the mark. We are here to help children develop the self-confidence and skills to achieve exponential growth in their literacy journey.
